In July, the AdvoKids series will focus on Disability Independence Day. Learn about the life of Judy Heumann, known as the mother of the disability rights movement. Visitors will then create a microphone to commemorate the many powerful speeches and protests Heumann led to challenge the misconceptions associated with disabilities and improve the rights of the disability community.
“AdvoKids” is a monthly series focusing on children learning what it means to be an advocate for themselves and others. Adults will learn how they can support their child’s self-advocacy efforts, which promote confidence, resilience and empathy.
This is a drop-in program; it takes approximately 10 minutes and is yours to keep.
