Family History Day

Location: Village Green in Cutchogue

Suffolk Historical Council & Museums will hold its fourth annual Family History Day, this year with a 1776 theme. It’s centered on the 3rd New York Regiment, which will be reenacting drills & recreating a Revolutionary War encampment.

There will be colonial cooking demonstrations with food cooked over an open flame from 18th-century recipes. See examples of colonial textile making, including spinning, weaving, and embroidery. Learn about the local Corchaug Indian tribe through hands-on instruction from Tony Valderrama of the Wilderness Traveling Museum and see how wampum was made. The Cutchogue-New Suffolk Library will provide colonial games, three musical groups will perform colonial-era music, and, of course, we will offer tours of all our historic buildings on the Village Green. This will also be the grand opening of two new temporary exhibits. “North Fork in the Revolution,” in the Old House, and “America Celebrates its First One Hundred Years,” in the Wickham House, which includes objects from the Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition.

Bring the whole family and have fun while learning about your local history. We strongly encourage everyone to come in period costume to get into the spirit of the day! (Suggested donation $5.00) For questions, email cutchoguehistory@gmail.com. A stop on the North Fork Revolutionary War Trail. Get your Suffolk County 250th passbook stamped on-site by The Cutchogue New Suffolk Historical Society & Museums.
