Now through March 23rd, 25 cents of every Shamrock Shake sold at McDonald’s restaurants will go towards programs and services at the Ronald McDonald House in New Hyde Park and across the New York area.
The effort is part of a nationwide promotion that supports local Ronald McDonald houses across the country.
“This is the first time McDonald’s is bringing back the 25-cent RMHC donation since 2017,” said Cassandra Basile, Director of Marketing at RMHC NYM. “That donation will directly support families who are receiving comfort and care at Ronald McDonald House Charities New York Metro [on Long Island] and the surrounding houses in our region.”
RMHC NYM operates a 42-bedroom home-away-from-home in New Hyde Park, NY, adjacent to Cohen Children’s Medical Center, for the families of children receiving medical care at the hospital. It also operates two Ronald McDonald Family Rooms at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital in Suffolk County, which provide respite for parents who are at their children’s bedside.
RMHC NYM is currently gearing up for construction of a new Ronald McDonald House at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital, which will be the first in Suffolk County and only the second on Long Island. It will serve Suffolk County residents – and any families needing overnight accommodations to be near a child in the hospital – to avoid costly hotel stays or multi-hour commutes to be nearby. A groundbreaking ceremony for the house was held last year and construction will begin in spring 2025 with plans to open in 2027.
The Shamrock Shake helped establish the Ronald McDonald House program back in 1974.
