It’s winter on Long Island, which means cold and snowy afternoons, and coming up with children’s activities outside of the house. One of our favorites and we hope it is one of yours; is ice skating. Long Island offers a number of rinks island wide, so depending on your location and your skating preference, choosing a venue should be fun. We have compiled a list of both indoor and outdoor ice skating rinks on Long Island.
Outdoor Rinks:
Christopher Morley Park, Roslyn, within the 98 acre park lies an outdoor skate rink, named by News 12 as the best outdoor skating rink on Long Island! The rink is open various days and times. For more information and operating hours Click Here
Syosset-Woodbury Community Park, Jericho Turnpike, Syosset, has an outdoor ice skating rink, part of the Town of Oyster Bay Parks. For skate times and additional information Click Here
The Rinx at Harborfront Park, Port Jefferson, through March, you can experience skating on the harbor with gorgeous views of the water in the heart of Port Jefferson Village. For more information and public skate times Click Here
Marjorie R. Post Community Park Ice Rink in Massapequa is another Town of Oyster Bay outdoor skating rink open to residents and non-residents alike. For skate times and additional information Click Here
Grant Park Rink is located in Hewlett. The rink is open daily for public skating. Discounted season passes can be purchased. For more information and operating hours Click Here
Buckskill Winter Club in East Hampton is an upscale facility Located just north of Montauk Highway. The venue offers public skating seven days a week. It’s pricier than many rinks but the amenities reflect the higher price, and skaters are welcome to stay all day and into the evening. There is a cafe with a fireplace, changing area, regular ice resurfacing, skate and helmet rentals, and balancing aids for novice skaters. For more details Click Here
Southampton Ice Rink in Southampton opened in 2014 and quickly became a South Fork winter destination. It is located adjacent to the Southampton mini-golf and driving range. Adding to it’s appeal is the fact that the rink is refrigerated so it can remain open when nearby ponds and rivers have melted so the season is extended. For more information and schedules Click Here
Indoor Rinks:
Long Beach Municipal Ice Arena, Long Beach, is an indoor ice skating rink offering plenty of activities. They host birthday parties, offer a learn to skate program, and hockey leagues. For information and open skate schedules please Click Here
Islanders Iceworks, Syosset, is the official practice facility of the New York Islanders. The arena is also the home ice to the PAL Junior Islanders and the Nassau County High School Hockey League. Dix Hills Park Ice Rink, Dix Hills, the indoor ice rink sets the tone for winter fun with its rustic feel and ski lodge motif. The rink offers a variety of activities including public skating sessions, figure skating, group skating lessons, private skating lessons, adult and youth hockey programs. Cantiague Park in Hicksville, NY, is a home to recreational skaters and hockey teams alike. The rink has also played host to Olympic gold medalists such as Nancy Kerrigan, who performed there in 2004. Check out the schedules and join the fun by Clicking Here
Superior Ice Rink in Kings Park, NY, is a family owned and operated rink established in 1972. They are open year round offering lessons, party packages and even summer hockey camps. For more information Click Here
Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center in Bethpage Community Park is open year round and boasts a state-of-the-art facility. It is operated by the town and Town Supervisor John Venditto states, “The facility, which is handicapped accessible, combines modern user amenities with an environmentally sensitive and energy-efficient design.” Further information can be found on the town’s web site Click Here
Iceland in New Hyde Park offers public free skating sessions, party packages, adult hockey. They also have a house league, the Icecats, and is home to the Metropolitan Figure Skating Club. Visit their web site for more information by Clicking Here
Freeport Recreation Center Ice Rink is located in Freeport and has public skating sessions, lessons, party packages, and a youth hockey league. All children eight and under are required to wear a helmet, supplied by the center. For more information and schedules Click Here
Andrew Stergiopoulos Ice Rink is located in Great Neck, in the Parkwood Sports Complex. It is a renovated indoor rink with an outdoor chilly feel. The rink is home to the Great Neck youth hockey program and offers a skate school, public skating, teen nights, and holiday camps. For more information and skating schedule Click Here
Newbridge Arena in Bellmore offers open skate times for the public, figure skating, group and private lessons, a youth ice hockey league, party packages and more. For more information Click Here
Northwell Health Ice Center located in East Meadow, is an affiliate of Iceworks and offers public skating, camps and clinics, figure skating, hockey leagues (including one of LI’s only all-girls’ leagues), and lessons. For more information Click Here
Port Washington Skating Center in Port Washington is an indoor rink that is open year-round and features open skate hours that are extended during school breaks, lessons, hockey leagues, and special events. It also offers ice rentals and party packages. For more information Click Here
