In honor of International Women in Engineering Day we will be learning all about Mary Riggins. A Newark native, Mary revolutionized the industry of trains by filing a patent for the first Railway Crossing Gate in 1890. This invention warned pedestrians and drivers of an approaching train and was the precursor to today’s automated gates. Come celebrate Mary Riggins by making your own moving crossing arm craft.

This is a drop-in program; it takes approximately 10 minutes and is yours to keep.
