This week in stART we will be reading “My First Kwanzaa” by Karen Katz. Kwanzaa is an African-American cultural holiday that is celebrated from December 26th-January 1st since the first celebration in 1966. The name Kwanzaa means “first fruits” and is based around harvest celebrations traced back to ancient African civilizations. Prepare for this year’s holiday by creating a craft kinara, a candleholder for seven candles used in the celebration of Kwanzaa.
Fee: $4 with museum admission, $3 LICM members
